The easiest way to understand the duties of the Governors is to think of them as a board of directors. It isn’t a perfect analogy but certainly it is the Governors’ responsibility to oversee the activities of the school, reviewing policies, approving the budget, and supporting the management team. We are also accountable to parents and other partners for the performance of the school.

Governing Bodies have the following core functions:

• Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;


• Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and


• Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

The Governors meet at least six times a year as a full governing board. In addition there are Nominated Governors to oversee;
